This is the moment an eagle-eyed stranger appeared to come to the aid of an 11-year-old girl who was about to be taken off the street by two men in the middle of the day.

The woman reportedly heard the men asking the child if she was alone before intervening.

Footage obtained by MailOnline shows a man approaching a young girl standing outside a shop on a West Wickham street in south-east London.

The clip appears to show the man trying to lead her away before the heroine steps in to save the day.

The woman, wearing a green dress, rushes from the shop the girl is standing outside, as the child appears to be following the man who was speaking to her. After putting a hand on the little girl’s shoulder, the child and the man stop wandering away and the distressed woman appears to be pleading with the child not to leave with the man.

The three continue to talk before the man eventually gives the pair a thumbs up and walks away.

A shopkeeper told the MailOnline that the man and an accomplice had been watching the youngster “and seeing if anyone was with her”.

He added that in the moments leading up to the apparent incident, the men had “asked in Hindi about mobile phone top-up vouchers.”

The episode occurred before the start of the summer holidays during a Saturday morning in June 2023, however the Met Police are only just putting out a CCTV appeal to find the two men involved.

The video shows the woman walking past the young girl and the stranger as she enters the Mind charity shop next to the newsagents. She glances back at the vulnerable child as she enters the shop.

However 25 seconds later she emerges from the charity shop and confronts the man, before encouraging the girl to come into the Mind store where she called the police.

The heroic woman is reported to have heard the man asking the girl if she was alone and so quickly came to her aid.

The two men are now being pursued by police and their images have been circulated to try and track them down.

A Met Police spokesman revealed that the images of the men came from CCTV footage taken when they followed the girl into Shriji News.
