Daniel Khalife has been brutally mocked after only making it to Chiswick after four days on the run.
Khalife was arrested just five miles from HMP Wandsworth where he escaped strapped to the bottom of a lorry.
Following his arrest, the public has taken to X (Twitter) to mock Khalife for making it such a short distance after such a difficult escape.
Khalife was arrested by police at 11am this morning after several reports from the public indicated he was in Chiswick, London.
In the four days since his disappearance, social media was busy with rumours and theories about where he might be.
Most of the mockery centred around the short distance between Wandsworth and Chiswick, a journey which takes just a few minutes on the train and around two hours on foot.
Writing about Khalife’s capture, Jamie Simmonds said: “Daniel Khalife only making it to Chiswick in four days, is like telling your parents you’re running away and then sitting in the garden.”
Jason Okundaye added: “He deserved to be caught for only making it to Chiswick in four days though how can you not even escape London?
“He let us all down but worst of all he let himself down.”
Another source of comedy came from how Khalife could escape from prison but not make it out of London or the country.
A user simply going by the name “~” said: “Daniel Khalife had four days to get out of the country and the furthest he made it was Chiswick. How did he even escape prison in the first place.”
Ahead of his arrest, one user simply said: “Prisoner on the loose in Chiswick…clearly we’re dealing with a man who doesn’t mind spending £8 on a coffee and croissant.”
While Khalife’s escape was a source of comedy for many, his arrest is important and an investigation has now begun into how he escaped.
In a statement upon his arrest, the Metropolitan Police said: “Metropolitan Police officers have arrested Daniel Khalife, who escaped from HMP Wandsworth on Wednesday 6 September.
“Officers apprehended him just before 11:00hrs today, Saturday 9 September, in the Chiswick area, and he is currently in police custody.
“We would like to thank the public and media for their support throughout our investigation to locate Khalife and we will provide a further update on his arrest in due course.”
After police announced his arrest, Prime Minister Rishi Sunak said he was “very pleased” Khalife was now in custody.
