An 11-year-old boy reportedly suffered serious injuries after being shot in the hip.

The boy was with a “party of adults” on a patch of woodland between the villages of Catsfield and Ninsfield in Sussex just before 11am on Thursday, August 31.

Eyewitnesses reported seeing six police cars, a dog unit, and a police van at the scene. The ambulance service and air ambulance also attended the scene.

Police say a 54-year-old man from Nottingham was arrested on suspicion of grievious bodily harm.

Writing on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter, Sussex Police said: “We responded to a report of an 11-year-old boy who had suffered a serious injury to his hip in woodland between Catsfield and Ninfield just after 11am on Thursday morning. He was airlifted to hospital in London.”

The force added: “The boy was with a party of adults who were shooting at the time of the incident. A 54-year-old man from Nottinghamshire was arrested at the scene on suspicion of grievous bodily harm.”
